THE WAY OF MIRROR CONSORTS - LEVEL I 

*Note: Both singles and couples may attend the Level 1 Training.

The traditional schools of non-dual Tantrik Yoga that comprise non-sectarian Trika Mahāsiddha Yoga, such as Śaivism, Vajrayana & Bön, offered a number of ways for students to reach ultimate realization of their Buddha Nature. Monasticism was not the main or only way to realization, in fact nondual Śaiva Dharma (Śiva Yogas of Enlightenment) has never had the institution of monks and nuns.

This is because normal life “re-visioned” through the lens of Tantrik Yoga is said to be the natural way to enlightenment for human beings. 

An obvious aspect of human life is sexuality and relationships. The Way of Mirror Consorts is the path to enlightenment that elevates romance and sex to Sacred Romance and Sexual Meditation as the primary means of liberation. It makes your relationship your temple, your practice and your enlightenment. It is one of the 5 Ways of Practice within Trika Mahāsiddha Yoga.

In the Way of Mirror Consorts the romantic partner is re-visioned as an agency of the guru or Essence Itself. The practitioner cultivates Ultimate Intimacy with the Universe as One while simultaneously cultivating a divine and mystical relationship with the partner as an emanation of the pure Essence-Nature, or a nirmanakaya buddha.

This way contains many specific teachings and practices that have been kept secret for many centuries. Here are some of them:

 i. The Doctrine of Desire

ii. Cultivating “Passions as Virtues”

iii. Creating and maintaining the “Sacred Vessel” of the relationship

iv. Sacred Romance – What is it?; How to practice/live it?

v. Sexual Yogas – the three approaches to sexual meditation and the foundational teachings and practices which form the base. (*not to be confused with what is now known as Neo-Tantra)

vi. The Subtle Teachings of Eros and the Erotic Bhavanā as the way of life. 

vii. Self-Identity and Attachment 

viii. Nondual Love and its direct relationship with enlightenment.

ix. Sacred Speech of Awareness training

x. Invoking and living in a Sacred Mandala

xii. Partner Exercises to increase harmony of the subtle bodies, including sounding, movement, breath and visualization.

xiii. Partner as “Icon of Essence” and object of guru-yoga practice.

ix. The pitfalls of this most rapid path, and how to avoid them.

x. Meditation: both non-conceptual and supportive meditations with form are at the core of the Way of Mirror Consorts. Meditation, Sexual Yoga and Integration Meditation are the core practices of this Way.

 ABOUT THE TEACHER

Dharma Bodhi (Kol Martens) began practicing yoga at age seven, and in his teens moved into practices of Chan Buddhism and Daoism. He then went on to study non-dual Śaivite yoga and completed Ācārya training in 1996 under his non-dual Śaiva Guru with an emphasis in Kundalinī Hatha Yoga. Since that time he has been studying and practicing Tibetan Dzogchen meditation and yoga. Settled in Costa Rica, Dharma Bodhi and his wife, Sahajadākinī, dedicate their time to raising their family, personal practice and teaching the Oral-Practice Tradition of the Mahāsiddhas to small groups of students. 

PREREQUISITES

Level I of the Way of Mirror Consorts is open to anyone - whether you are in a relationship or not at this time. 

If you decide to do the Way of Mirror Consorts and wish to attend the higher levels, we then request that you first complete:

• The Preliminaries of TMY (online self-study)
• Foundations of TMY (online self-study)
• Enneagram of Personality (In-person Retreat)
• The Red Bindu Retreat (In-person Retreat, full length (10+ days))

*You may attend these trainings above at any time and in any order. 

**The higher levels of The Way of Mirror Conorts are only reserved for couples who have been monogamous for at least two years.  Both partners should have a deep interest and alignment with TMY or another nondual Dharma lineage.

***Mirror consort couples are also strongly advised to attend the Way of Meditation in-person retreats (up to Level III) whenever possible. Meditation training will give the toolkit and equanimity necessary for applying the Way of Mirror Consorts Methods and View Teachings.
