Mining the Infinite Potentials of the Red Bindu

June 27 - July 10    |   Costa Rica 2022

One of the universe’s most mystical secrets is that pleasure and passion flavor the fundamental energy of being; that existence itself is ecstatic.  And for the yogins who have realized this truth, life is full of vivacity and elation.  Tantrik yoga refers to this energy as the RED BINDU.

Being born into a culture largely ignorant of this energy, each of us has had to confront our red bindu without any wisdom or resources with which to wield it.  For most of us, this has yielded unhealthy behaviors along the spectrum of repression to an unnatural expression of our psychosexuality, e.g. compulsive desires for sex, food, drugs, gambling, entertainment, etc.; emotional reactivity; hyper-sexuality; sexual repression, and much, much more.
In Trika Mahāsiddha Yoga (and by extension Trika Psychology) emotions and sexuality are considered to be the very energy of vitality, creativity, and compassion, and the vehicles by which we intimately connect with the self, others, and the world.  These energies must be accepted and allowed to express in natural ways, since good health will never be attained by forced control or repression.  Psychosexual imbalances will only resolve once the struggle against the self has ended, and we master the inherent power held prisoner within limited behaviors of emotional and sexual conditioning.
It has long been ignored by Western psychology just how much our sexuality contributes to a healthy ego structure.  This retreat seeks to rectify that by guiding participants through various energetic practices and addressing long-hushed topics that can lead us to a passionate and dynamic expression of the self.  During this retreat you will learn how to begin to awaken any dormant energy of the red bindu, as well as how to work with this energy (sensations, emotions, and thoughts) that will inevitably arise as a result.

  • Implement Tantrik Yoga’s body-energy-mind exercises to awaken the red bindu and begin to resolve psychosexual imbalances, like: trauma, inhibition and passion-based compulsions.

  • Participate in profound group discussions around every facet of emotions and sexuality, including: the importance of a full comprehension of our emotions and sexuality, sexual orientation/identity, (dis)satisfaction in sex and life, natural appetites vs. buffering and conditioning, healthy intensity seeking (including dominance and submission), subconscious/rejected/secret desires and how they influence us, and much, much more.  As a group we will seek to leave no stone left unturned.

  • Learn to free yourself from the root causes of emotional suffering and discover ground in the Essence-based virtues of your personality.

  • Examine the detriment of pure lust and establish sexual desire as an inherently fulfilling and sacred experience, thus ending the ceaseless craving for any object/event outside of the self while also enhancing your true nature.

  • Benefit from the group dynamic which will take you deeper into self-knowledge than when traveling alone.

You will leave this retreat with a well defined set of tools and knowledge so that you may continue to progress upon your return home; and with your sincere dedication you will feel more alive, well connected to self and others, and with a better directed and more powerful expression of your red bindu energy and thus your life.
*Please note: there will not be any sexual contact nor sexual practices instructed at this retreat.

Dharma Bodhi (Kol Martens) began practicing yoga at age seven, and in his teens moved into practices of Chan Buddhism and Daoism. He then went on to study non-dual Śaivite yoga and completed Ācārya training in 1996 under his non-dual Śaiva Guru with an emphasis in Kundalinī Hatha Yoga. Since that time he has been studying and practicing Tibetan Dzogchen meditation and yoga. Settled in Costa Rica, Dharma Bodhi and his wife Sukhalaya dedicate their time to raising their family, personal practice and teaching the Oral-Practice Tradition of the Mahāsiddhas to small groups of students.

Sumanasa (Suzy Daren MA LMFT) is the founder of Williamsburg Yoga Psychotherapy and is a licensed marriage and family therapist.  She received her master’s degree in counseling psychology from John F. Kennedy University and her bachelor’s of science honors degree in psychology and religion from the University of Toronto.  Since 2008, Suzy has worked in private practice counseling a diverse population of individuals, couples and families.
Trika Psychology is currently being developed by Sumanasa and Dharma Bodhi. Trika Psychology takes a non-pathologizing approach to working with the body-mind-heart complex that systematically moves clients along a path from suffering (pick any diagnosis in the DSM) towards a healthy ego structure, radical self-acceptance, and the confidence in how to best progress through this one precious life.
